“With this, the inswinging delivery will not hit his pads”, Wasim Akram offers batting tips to Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli | BCCI/IPL

Virat Kohli is ranked among the most consistent batters in modern-day cricket across all formats. One of the main reasons for this is his adaptability, as well as the large range of shots he can play. The cover-drives, the on drives, flick, he can play shots all around the ground.

It’s no wonder that he’s amassed over 25000 runs for his country. However, the former India skipper has not been in the best of form lately, frequently succumbing to ‘looseners.’

Wasim Akram, the legendary Pakistan pacer, gave Kohli some advice on how to cope with the balls nipping back in, which have on many occasions cost him his wicket.

Kohli, according to Akram, should bat with an open stance and play straight. This, he feels, will enable Virat to cope with approaching deliveries in the early innings and avoid being trapped LBW.

“I think Kohli should bat with an open stance initially, just for the first couple of overs to negotiate the incoming delivery. With this, the inswinging delivery will not hit his pads. He can play straight with this stance. I think this is what Virat should do early on if he feels he is struggling against the left-armers,” said Akram on the VUSport Streaming YouTube channel.

“If a player like Kohli survives the first couple of overs, then I do not think it would be easy to stop him,” he added.

Virat Kohli is currently playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL season. He scored just 5 before getting run out in his team’s clash against Rajasthan Royal (RR) on Tuesday (April 5).
