RR lost their consecutive match in a row | BCCI/IPL

Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson on Monday (2nd May) said his side didn’t bat well and were 15-20 runs short after the loss they suffered in Match 47 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in Mumbai.

RR registered their second successive loss of the IPL 15 as they were thumped by KKR at Wankhede Stadium by 7 wickets. Asked to bat first, they struggled with their timing and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Skipper Samson played a gritty knock of 54 runs and a finish by Shimron Hetmyer (27*) helped them post a fighting total of 152 runs on the board.

Defending the target, RR bowlers showed great fight and kept testing KKR batters. But Shreyas Iyer (34), Nitish Rana (48*) and Rinku Singh (42*) chipped in with useful contributions and took their side home with 5 balls to spare.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Sanju Samson said that they were 15-20 runs short on a wicket, which was slow.

“The wicket was a bit slow, but they also bowled really well, but with the kind of batting we had, we would have liked a few more boundaries at the end and finish off a bit better. I think we were short by 15-20 runs,” he said.

Samson revealed that he had niggles from the last few games but is recovering well. He credited his bowlers for the fight they showed.

“Having few niggles from the last couple of games, It’s feeling good now and I’m recovering well. It’s a great effort (with the ball), we showed some real fight in the game and the energy was really amazing. Personally, we should have batted a bit more better,” he said.

Samson said that he wanted to build the partnership but wickets fell at the wrong time and he stopped himself to continue hitting the ball out of the park.

“Of course, win the next time for sure. We have to keep on assessing the game and who is batting with you, wickets at the wrong time stopped myself to keep on going with the momentum. Wanted to build up the partnership and when I wanted to go hard I think they bowled really well and we couldn’t execute our shots,” he said.

RR will be next seen in action on Saturday (7th May) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Wankhede Stadium in Pune.
