Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) made a strong comeback in the tournament after defeating the defending champions in a group stage match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium, Pune on May 4 (Wednesday). It was a close contest between the two teams. However, the Red Army managed to win the contest in the end.

CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to field first. RCB had a good start with skipper Faf du Plessis and former captain Virat Kohli stitching an excellent partnership of 62 runs for the first wicket. However, both Du Plessis and Kohli got out in a space of 15 deliveries. The Red Army lost the Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell in that space too.

For RCB, Mahipal Lomror and Rajat Patidar stabilized the innings, before wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik played some excellent strokes for the Red Army to reach 173/8 in their 20 overs. For CSK, Maheesh Theekshana (three wickets), Moeen Ali (two wickets), and Dwaine Pretorius (one wicket) were the successful bowlers.

CSK gave a tough fight to RCB

Chasing 174 to win, CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway gave a good start to their team. However, as soon as Gaikwad perished, no other CSK batter managed to stick around on the wicket. The Kiwi opener Conway stroked an excellent half-century. However, it was not enough for the Yellow Army to win the match.

For RCB, pacer Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped three crucial wickets and was adjudged the Player of the Match for his excellent performance.
