All-rounder Krunal Pandya was adjudged player of the match
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) managed to beat the Punjab Kings (PBKS) during a group stage match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on April 29 (Friday). All-rounder Krunal Pandya was adjudged player of the match for his excellent performance.
PBKS skipper Mayank Agarwal won the toss and elected to bowl first. LSG got off to a poor start with the skipper KL Rahul getting out for just six runs. However, wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock found a potent partner in Indian batter Deepak Hooda, and the duo stitched 85 runs for the second wicket.
The new entrants looked in complete control, till South African pacer Kagiso Rabada and Rahul Chahar bowled some decent spells and stopped LSG at just 153/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Kagiso Rabada (four wickets), Rahul Chahar (two wickets), and Sandeep Sharma (one wicket) were the successful bowlers for the Kings.
LSG were very disciplined in their bowling
Chasing 154 to win, PBKS skipper Mayank Agarwal went all guns blazing and played some excellent strokes in the field restrictions. However, he was scalped at a score of 25. Senior batter Shikhar Dhawan tried to stick on the wicket, but could only manage five runs in 15 balls.
While English batter Jonny Bairstow tried to play the anchor role, he did not get any form of support from the other end. All-rounder Rishi Dhawan scored some quick runs towards the end of the innings, but it was not enough as PBKS were restricted to 133/8 in their allotted 20 overs and lost the contest by 20 runs.
After tonight’s victory against PBKS, the Super Giants have reached the third spot in the points table. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans (GT), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are the other top three teams in the points table.
