Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder Tim David, on Saturday (21st May), revealed that he had received a message Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis sent him ahead of their clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday (21st May).
MI’s win against DC at Wankhede Stadium ensured RCB’s place in the playoffs. The Rohit Sharma-led side thumped the opposition by 5 wickets to eliminate them from the tournament.
They displayed a staggering bowling and batting performance to end the tournament on a high. One of the main architects behind their win was David. The Australian all-rounder came out all guns blazing and smashed 34 runs in just 11 balls to dent DC’s chances and pave way for RCB into the playoffs.
Even though he got a chance when DC didn’t review his caught behind the decision on his first ball, he remained unfazed by it and smashed two fours and as many as four sixes in his 11-ball knock.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Tim David said that it was nice for his side to finish with the win. He talked about the wicket and revealed Ishan Kishan gave him insight into it.
“It’s nice to finish with a win. It’s a good feeling. We got close the other night. We can’t ask for much more than to finish with a win. Ishan as he walked off, he said to me, ‘The wicket’s gotten flatter.’ So it was holding a little bit with the slower balls but you just have to hold your shape, back your game, and keep it simple. I think there was a couple of baby sixes today so I got away with a couple,” Tim David said.
David also revealed that RCB skipper Faf du Plessis sent him a picture along with Glenn Maxwell and Virat Kohli wearing Mumbai Indians’ jerseys.
“[Asked about being a former RCB player] I got a message from Faf this morning. It was a picture of him, Maxi, and Virat all in MI kit. Maybe I’ll have to post to Instagram later,” he said.
He also talked about his first ball-edge which didn’t DC didn’t review. He said that he thought he hit his pads.
“[Asked about first ball edge behind] I heard a noise but I wasn’t sure. When there was no review, crack on. I didn’t think I hit it at the time, I thought I hit my pad. But that’s how I’m going,” he said.
With MI’s win over DC, RCB became the fourth team to qualify for the playoffs along with Gujarat Titans (GT), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Qualifier 1 will be played in Kolkata on 24th May between GT and RR.
While MI will play LSG in the Eliminator on May 25 in Kolkata.
