Rovman Powell hit his maiden IPL fifty against SRH for DC | BCCI-IPLRovman Powell has been in deadly form for the Delhi Capitals (DC) despite starting off not so well in the IPL 2022. Having been moved up and down the order, he failed to come good in the first few matches of the tournament but has since given the finishes that were being hoped from him.

In his last 4 matches, Powell has made 26 in 15 balls against RR, 33* in 16 balls against KKR, 35 in 21 balls against LSG, and 67* in 35 balls in the recent clash against SRH. He now has 207 runs in 10 matches for DC at a strike rate of 171.18 with 18 sixes and 9 fours to his name.

In an interview with Star Sports, Rovman Powell revealed that he had to convince DC captain Rishabh Pant to let him bat at no.5 as he needed some balls to set himself up before going big.

I just told him (Pant) to trust me at No. 5, give me a chance to start, to bat the first 15-20 balls, that’s how I want to bat, and then (after) 20 balls I’ll try to maximize. I came to the IPL knowing that I’m in good form, knowing that I’ve done a lot of work,” Powell told host broadcaster Star Sports.

IPL 2022: ‘One of the best innings I’ve seen for Delhi’, Rishabh Pant hails David Warner’s knock against SRH

He was being shunted from no.6 to no.8 in playing XI for the first half of the IPL 2022, which left him disappointed.

At the start of the IPL, it was a little bit tough for me. I just keep believing in myself. I had a conversation with Rishabh, explaining to him that I was a little bit disappointed to bat at No. 8 in that game. But it is the nature of the game, whatever the situation you have been placed in, you have to do your best. Rishabh and the coach (Ricky Ponting), came up with a conclusion and plan and let me bat a little bit earlier now,” he said.

Rovman Powell also revealed the talk he had with David Warner who was nearing a hundred and remained unbeaten on 92 as Powell smashed it big in the last few overs, keeping the strike.

Speaking about his final over interaction with the swashbuckling Australian opener, Powell said, “At the start of the over, I asked, ‘do you want a single to try and get a hundred?’ and he said, ‘Listen, that is not how the cricket is played. You should try to smack as far as you can’, and I did that.”
