KKR registered their fifth victory against Mumbai Indians after making five changes to the lineup.
Kolkata Knight Riders finally were able to pick up an important win against the Mumbai Indians to keep their slim hopes alive in the tournament. The Shreyas Iyer-led side made five changes in their lineup and it paid off well as Mumbai Indians fell short by 52 runs in the end. With their fifth win of the season, Kolkata Knight Riders have now popped up to the seventh spot in the points table however, the road looks almost impossible still for them to make it to the playoffs.
Earlier, Venkatesh Iyer (43) played an excellent hand at the top of the order alongside Ajinkya Rahane (25) while Nitish Rana (43) continued his good form in recent times. In the bowling departments, Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for the KKR side as the Australian finished with 3 for 22 and dented the run chase for the Mumbai Indians.
CEO Venky Mysore is also involved in team selection: Shreyas Iyer
After the win, skipper Iyer mentioned that coach Brendon McCullum and CEO Venky Mysore had a big part in decision making and team selections and felt that some tough decisions had to be made as well. He also paid gratitude to the players in the squad for being able to keep their heads up even after a lot of chopping and changing.
“It is really difficult because I was also in that position once when I started playing the IPL. We discussed with the coaches and obviously, the CEO is also involved in team selection so especially, Baz (Brendon McCullum), he goes to the players and tells them. To be honest, all of them are very supportive of the decision making and the way they turn up to the ground and support each and every individual, it is something to be proud of as captain and I am really happy with how we played today,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation
The fans on Twitter were shattered to know about the CEO involved in team selections and they lashed out at the management after hearing Iyer’s words during the post-match presentation.
Here is how the Twitter reacted to CEO’s involvement in team selections
Interesting from Shreyas Iyer. Casually drops this: “obviously the CEO is also involved in team selection”.cricketing decisions should be left with cricketers not ceo. That’s why you are in this states#. Struggling to find combination. @KKRiders

Really like courage of Shreyas Iyer exposing CEO who is responsible for team selections. Because it’s definitely not the reflection of his captaincy skills when he was leading DC. BAZ & venky Mysore spoiled this team.

Brendon McCullum after the win against RR – I’m not someone who likes to chop and change much. I like to give selection loyalties and back the player for 1 or 2 more games than they expect
Yesterday shreyas Iyer says there is involvement of ceo in the team selection #IPL2022 #kkr

(2/2) As far as cricket is concerned,I don’t think the team CEO should be involved in team selection. The team selection should be done by the coaches of the team.@ShreyasIyer15 @VenkyMysore @KKRiders @Bazmccullum @DavidHussey29 @abhisheknayar1 @iamsrk @iam_juhi

CEO is involved in the team selection. What does Shreyas Iyer want suggest here?
— thatsportsguy (@mayurkadam65) May 10, 2022
NOOOO 😲 Shreyas Iyer did not say “CEO is also obviously involved in team selection”.
That’s a huge, huge statement and very disappointing to hear. That’s definitely not what a player would want to hear…#KKRvsMI

Shreyas iyer telling CEO getting involved in team playing 11 is indicator that @VenkyMysore is unprofessional and learn if you own franchise cricket doesn’t mean u own players and on field decision. Gambhir owned KKR on field. After that it was puppet show

Shreyas Iyer, a CEO of a sport team, says it is difficult to tell players about their axing. The CEO is also involved in team selections, which means that each and every player takes it well.

Shreyas Iyer told in post match chat that CEO of KKR is involved in team selection. No wonder they got their season screwed. He is definitely going through what Warner went through lst season with SRH.
Have some shame @KKRiders management!!#IPL2022 #ShreyasIyer #KKRvsMI #MIvKKR

Kudos to Shreyas Iyer for actually saying this openly. This (CEO interference) was something that every KKR fan guessed but was never actually confirmed on record. Morgan or DK (no offense to them) would have never said this publicly. Dunno how the scenario was with GG though.
