Kolkata Knight Riders finally were able to pick up an important win against the Mumbai Indians to keep their slim hopes alive in the tournament. The Shreyas Iyer-led side made five changes in their lineup and it paid off well as Mumbai Indians fell short by 52 runs in the end. With their fifth win of the season, Kolkata Knight Riders have now popped up to the seventh spot in the points table however, the road looks almost impossible still for them to make it to the playoffs.

Earlier, Venkatesh Iyer (43) played an excellent hand at the top of the order alongside Ajinkya Rahane (25) while Nitish Rana (43) continued his good form in recent times. In the bowling departments, Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for the KKR side as the Australian finished with 3 for 22 and dented the run chase for the Mumbai Indians.

CEO Venky Mysore is also involved in team selection: Shreyas Iyer

After the win, skipper Iyer mentioned that coach Brendon McCullum and CEO Venky Mysore had a big part in decision making and team selections and felt that some tough decisions had to be made as well. He also paid gratitude to the players in the squad for being able to keep their heads up even after a lot of chopping and changing.

“It is really difficult because I was also in that position once when I started playing the IPL. We discussed with the coaches and obviously, the CEO is also involved in team selection so especially, Baz (Brendon McCullum), he goes to the players and tells them. To be honest, all of them are very supportive of the decision making and the way they turn up to the ground and support each and every individual, it is something to be proud of as captain and I am really happy with how we played today,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation

The fans on Twitter were shattered to know about the CEO involved in team selections and they lashed out at the management after hearing Iyer’s words during the post-match presentation.
