History has been scripted in Pune as Pat Cummins slammed the joint-fastest half-century in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Aussie dasher breached the 50-run mark off just 14 deliveries, equaling KL Rahul’s feat. Cummins, the top-ranked Test bowler at the moment, stunned Mumbai Indians bowlers with his brutal hitting at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

He came out to bat at number seven in Kolkata Knight Riders’ chase of 162. Playing his first game of IPL 2022, the right-handed batter attacked MI bowlers from the outset and put up a six-hitting exhibition. As a result, the two-time champions crossed the line in just 16 overs, clinching the contest by five wickets. While many MI bowlers became victim of Cummins carnage, Daniel Sams endured the hardest time against him.

The left-arm speedster conceded as many as 35 runs in the 16th over as the game was done and dusted in no time. Notably, Sams bowled the third-most-expensive over in IPL history courtesy of his countryman. MI skipper Rohit Sharma asked Sams to deliver the 16th over and it proved to be a disastrous decision.

Cummins welcomed him with six, six, four and six in the first four deliveries. Literally, nothing worked for Sams as the ball was flying off Cummins’ willow. Pressure got the better of Sams as he bowled a waist-high no-ball in the fifth ball and the Aussie dasher accumulated two runs. While the free hit went for a boundary, the last delivery of the over went for a six.

This proved to be the decisive over as KKR convincingly clinched the game. Notably, only Harshal Patel and Prashanth Parmeswaran have delivered more expensive overs in IPL history. Parwinder Awana, Ravi Bopara, and Rahul Sharma are the others featuring in the unwanted list.
