After the culmination of the IPL 2022 season, the focus of Indian fans and cricketers now shifts to international cricket.
The Indian team will resume their international assignment with the home T20I series against South Africa. The Men in Blue will host the Proteas in five T20Is, starting June 9.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has asked the players to assemble in Delhi, the venue for the first T20I, on June 5. The visiting team will land in Delhi on June 2.
”The Indian team will assemble here on June 5 while the South Africans land in Delhi on June 2,” DDCA joint secretary Rajan Manchanda quoted as saying by PTI.
There will be no crowd restrictions and there will be no bio-bubble for the five-T20I series, though players will be tested regularly for COVID-19. Cuttack (June 12), Visakhapatnam (June 14), Rajkot (June 17), and Bengaluru (June 19) are the other venues for the series.
The Indian cricketers are currently enjoying a much-needed break after being in action for two months during the IPL.
KL Rahul will lead the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma, who has been rested along with senior members, including Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami.
Rishabh Pant has been named vice-captain of the team while Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik are making their comeback to the national side.
A number of IPL performers have been rewarded a place in the Indian squad. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has received his maiden call-up along with SRH’s pace sensation Umran Malik while the 18-member squad also features Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi among others.
