Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) locked horns in the 47th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday (May 2). While it was a comfortable seven-wicket win in the end for the Knight Riders courtesy of Rinku Singh and Nitish Rana, the game had its close moments as well. At the same time, the umpiring also came under the scanner with even the RR skipper Sanju Samson losing his cool over one of the wide calls.

The incident happened in the 19th over of KKR’s innings when things were close enough and the game could’ve gone anywhere. This is when the umpire Nitin Pandit called multiple wides which were debatable. The fourth ball of the over was one of those calls when a short ball signalled wide only to leave Samson furious. He frustratingly protested the umpire’s call by signalling for DRS making his disappointment clear.

The drama didn’t end here as the final ball of the over was also called wide which led to the RR skipper walking up to the umpire and discussing the matter with him. This time around, Rana had shuffled a lot in his crease and the bowler, Prasidh Krishna, just followed the batter to eventually beat him with a wide yorker. The ball passed Rana’s bat very closely but even then, the umpire called it a wide which didn’t please Samson even a bit.

RR lose their second game on the trot

As far as the match is concerned, Rajasthan Royals lost their second match on the trot. After losing the toss, they could muster only 152 runs batting first with Sanju Samson scoring a half-century and then Shimron Hetmyer applying the finishing touches with an unbeaten 27* off 13 balls.

In response, KKR also stumbled in the chase and things got interesting when their skipper Shreyas Iyer got out in the 13th over. But Rinku Singh came out and played an enterprising knock of 42* off 23 balls and Nitish Rana supported him well (48*) to take the team home in the final over of the game.
