Easy to make judgments from outside, I fully back Rishabh Pant’s on-field decisions: DC coach Ricky Ponting

“A captain makes decisions in a very short time and the decision he takes he thinks is the best for the team at that given time of the match,” Ponting said.

The Delhi Capitals suffered a humiliating 91-run defeat at the hands of the defending champions Chennai Super Kings in Match 55 of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on May 8. The heavy loss has done some damage to Delhi’s playoff scenarios.

Meanwhile, the head coach of the franchise, Ricky Ponting, has come forward and backed Rishabh Pant by saying that the decision-making in the shortest format needs to be done in the shortest span of time. He has also lashed out at critics saying that it is easier for the ones sitting outside to make judgments.

‘A captain makes decisions in a very short time’ – Ricky Ponting backs Rishabh Pant

“I fully back every decision he (Pant) takes on the field. Being a T20 captain before, I know you don’t have a lot of time to think about especially under extreme pressure. It is easy to make judgments from outside but trust me when you are in the middle it is not an easy thing to do”, said Ricky Ponting during the post-match press conference.

“A captain makes decisions in a very short time and the decision he takes he thinks is the best for the team at that given time of the match. He takes things like boundary size and batsmen at the crease into account when he takes those decisions”, he added.

The Capitals currently occupy the fifth position in the IPL 2022 points table and they need to win all their remaining fixtures and also hope for some other results to work in their favor if they are to make it to the playoffs. While the Delhi Capitals were completely outplayed by a spirited CSK unit, they would be hoping to put this loss behind them when the Rishabh Pant-led side lock horns with the northern rivals Rajasthan Royals at the DY Patil Stadium on May 11.
