Delhi Capitals (DC) have been average with four wins in eight league matches of Indian Premier League 2022. In their last league match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), they chased down the target of 147 runs on the back of strong overall performance. Currently, they are up against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Ahead of this fixture, Wasim Jaffer and Mohammad Azharuddin discussed the form of DC in this season.

Jaffer thinks that the team still relies heavily on the contributions of the opener, Prithvi Shaw and David Warner, and the form of Rishabh Pant has been a worry. He mentioned the fact that the spinner Kuldeep Yadav has been the player of the match in all the four victories of the game, and is a key player of the team. Jaffer added that Axar Patel has not supported Kuldeep in taking wickets. He further added that Mitchell Marsh need to return to form, while Lalit Yadav and Rovman Powell are contributing well.

“They rely heavily on Prithvi Shaw and David Warner, and Pant hasn’t come good. They haven’t won back-to-back matches. In all the four games which they have won, the man of the match has been Kuldeep Yadav. When Yadav has had an off day, there is a question mark on the bowling unit as Axar hasn’t picked wickets,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

“Other guys need to step up like Mitchell Marsh hasn’t struck form, Lalit Yadav has provided a little bit of cameos. Rovman Powell has started to do well, but there are two-three things, which they need to sort out,” Jaffer added.

Rovman Powell is too good a player: Mohammad Azharuddin

Azharuddin reckoned that Caribbean batter Powell need to be given the responsibility with the bat instead of being given only four-five overs. The former cricketer revealed that he had an interaction with Powell during his stint with Bangla Tigers in Abu Dhabi T10. He further added that if Powell comes at number three or four and manages to bat until the final few overs, then DC can be in a strong position.

“He is always batting in the last four or five overs, but if you give him responsibility, he is too good a player. I have spoken to him, as I was a mentor in the T10 tournament. He can bat at number three or four, and if he bats till the last few overs, then the batting department will certainly become strong,” said Azharuddin.
