Lucknow Super Giants now have one foot in the IPL 2022 playoffs as they climb atop the team standings with a 75-run triumph over the Kolkata Knight Riders. The two-time champions endured yet another dismal outing and their hopes of advancing to the next stage are all but over. It was indeed a comprehensive win for LSG as KKR never really looked in the hunt while chasing 177.

Earlier in the match, KKR won the toss and opted to bowl at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. LSG got off to a truly disastrous start with skipper KL Rahul getting run-out without even facing a delivery. While KKR were ecstatic with the bonus wicket, Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda did the repair work with precision. They added 71 runs for the second wicket as LSG’s innings was back on track.

While De Kock brought up a fine half-century, Hooda perished for 41. KKR pulled things a bit in the middle overs as Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni struggled to score freely. Nevertheless, some fine hitting from Marcus Stoinis and Jason Holder towards the end meant LSG posted a formidable score of 176/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Andre Russell gave LSG a mini scare

In reply, KKR were pushed on the back foot straight away as left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan bowled a maiden first over and dismissed Baba Indrajith on the last ball. The two-time champions couldn’t really recover from that jolt as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Besides Mohsin, Dushmantha Chameera, Avesh Khan and Jason Holder were also brilliant with the ball.

There seemed a slight twist in the tale when Andre Russell was clobbering the ball over the park. However, lack of support from the other end meant the Caribbean dasher had no option besides slashing the bat hard. As a result, he was dismissed for a 19-ball 45. While Sunil Narine also made an entertaining 22, his efforts could only narrow down the margin of defeat. As a result, KKR were bundled out for 101, losing the contest by 75 runs.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to LSG’s triumph:
