In the clash between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the latter won the toss and elected to field first at the Wankhede Stadium. Both the teams had an unchanged XI as the two had won their previous game with the same formation.

RR openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler started the play for their team. RCB’s David Willey struck early when he dismissed the former in the second over of the game as Jaiswal failed to perform, yet again. This time it was Devdutt Padikkal who played an important knock for RR when he stepped out. Buttler and Padikkal played some good shots and formed a partnership before the latter was dismissed after scoring 37 in 29 balls.

RCB faced a big blow when Akash Deep and David Willey dropped Buttler on 10* and 11* respectively. It proved to be very costly for them as Buttler ended up scoring 70*(47), alongside a good contribution by Shimron Hetmyer who also remained unbeaten on 42*(31). They took their team’s score to 169 and shared eight sixes between them, six of them hit by Buttler.

RCB defeat RR by four wickets

RCB had to chase 170 in 20 overs when Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat walked out in the middle. The two started off well and stayed strong till the powerplay as they managed to score 48 runs in six overs. Just as the field setting was changed and the bowlers were shuffled, Faf lost his wicket to Yuzvendra Chahal and had to depart for 29(20).

Soon, Navdeep Saini picked up Anuj Rawat, followed by Virat Kohli’s run out and David Willey’s wicket by Chahal. The ex-RCB players made scoring difficult for the RCB batters on the field. RCB lost three wickets in quick succession, followed by their fifth batter falling in the form of Sherfane Rutherford.

Shahbaz Ahmed and Dinesh Karthik put up a 50+ run partnership as they handled all the pressure in the middle to cut the chase short. Ahmed’s 45(26) and Karthik’s unbeaten 44(23) helped RCB to sail through RR, and hand them their first defeat of the season.
