Rajasthan Royals locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for the 47th game of IPL 2022. While Karun Nair replaced Daryl Mitchell in the RR setup, KKR dropped Venkatesh Iyer from the side and roped in Anukul Roy as he made his debut for KKR. KKR ended their five-match losing streak as they defeated RR by seven wickets.

After Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl first, the KKR bowlers showed some impressive bowling abilities. Rajasthan’s 152 looked tough to defend, but with the surface holding, they had a chance. Sanju Samson (54 off 49) was the one who rose to the occasion, scoring quickly after the first wicket went within the powerplay. He appeared to be struggling in the innings as he failed to accelerate towards the end of his knock.

His innings came to an end and it looked like RR will struggle to accelerate and put up a strong total. However, Shimron Hetmyer (27 off 13), who scorched his way into the game, gave some finishing touches. Their struggle with the batting line-up continued from the previous game and it looked like they were happy with simply rotating the strike. As a result, they could not utilize the overs in the middle, falling short of runs.

KKR middle-order stepped up to take the team over the line

In the second innings, KKR batters had to chase only 153 runs, but they had a task ahead of them because RR bowlers were capable of restricting them to a low total. KKR had a sluggish start when their opening duo of Baba Indrajith (15 off 16) and Aaron Finch (4 off 7) fell early to end the powerplay at 32/2. Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana were very slow to start with but eventually picked up pace as they tried to turn the game in their favour.

Iyer’s run was cut short by Trent Boult as the speedster sent him walking back after the batter scored a 32-ball 34. Rinku Singh (42* off 23) and Rana (48* off 37) steered the ship as they put out their best and added crucial runs for the fourth wicket. A lot of extras cost RR huge as the bowlers were unable to handle the pressure. Singh’s calmness on the field and Rana’s finishing touch helped KKR bounce back in the game and clinch the victory.
